CATASTROPHIC FIRE DAYS AND BUSES

The area west of Strathalbyn (which includes Eastern Fleurieu School’s Ashbourne, Strathalbyn R6 and 7-12 Campus) is in the Mt Lofty Fire District and east of Strathalbyn (which includes Langhorne Creek and Milang Campus) is in the Murraylands District. The border of Mt Lofty and Murraylands runs directly north east from Strathalbyn (see maps on www.cfs.sa.gov.au) .

In terms of catastrophic days, the following will apply:

  • If both Mt Lofty & Murraylands have been declared catastrophic, no school buses will operate following official advice from the Department for Education.
  • If Mt Lofty is declared catastrophic and Murraylands is not, no school buses will operate, following official advice, as Eastern Fleurieu School is in the Mt Lofty Fire District.  Passenger services - Callington bus, Metro/Southlink 852 and 854 - will run.
  • If Murraylands is declared catastrophic and Mt Lofty is not, no school buses will operate, following official advice, as all buses need to travel to Eastern Fleurieu School in Strathalbyn which is in the Mt Lofty Fire District. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to read the publication on the Department for Education’s website entitled “Bushfire and Your Child's School or Pre-school”.

When changes occur to our school/bus runs, in relation to bushfire days, we will use our communication tools such as telephone, Facebook, SZapp, website, SMS. It is important that mobile numbers are correct in our database as bus families may be notified by sms, if time permits, if a bushfire affects a school bus at any time of the year or a catastrophic day is declared. If you need to update these details please do so in writing.

News services will also announce a catastrophic day on both radio and television and information will be updated on the CFS website.  The Department for Education will provide official advice to schools by 4.15pm the day prior to the day declared with catastrophic fire conditions.
